Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is pushing for his first start since March. The England midfielder has made three substitute appearances since being sidelined by a groin operation. Glen Johnson has been declared fit after a hamstring problem forced him to miss the last three matches while centre-back Daniel Agger has recovered from a broken rib sustained last month.
Nemanja Vidic is a doubt despite play for Serbia, but Sir Alex Ferguson has plenty of other options. Midfielder Tom Cleverley, who damaged ligaments in his ankle a month ago, and defender Rafael remain sidelined although the Brazilian has now returned to full training after missing the start of the league season with a dislocated shoulder.
MANAGER QUOTES
Kenny Dalglish: "I haven't a crystal ball, I don't know how long he (Gerrard) has left, how long it will be. Maybe once he gets back into the swing of things he will have a better idea himself. Whatever he wants to do we will go along with and for me both him and Carra are fantastic examples. Both of them are two people who everybody else can look up to."
Sir Alex Ferguson: "Although things may change in the next few years with Manchester City, whether the derby game can be equal to Manchester United-Liverpool game, because I've always considered it to be the game of the season in English football and at the moment I think it remains that."

Sri Lanka could face action over 'poor pitch'

The pitch was criticised as "too dry" by both teams after Australia wrapped up a 125-run victory.
"The pitch for the Galle Test... has been rated as poor by Chris Broad....who officiated in the Test," the ICC said in a statement.
"The ICC... will now consider all the evidence, including studying video footage of the match and submissions from the host member board, before reaching their decision in due course."
SLC must provide a written response to Broad's report within 14 days and if the global body is not satisfied with the explanation, it could be fined and ordered to undertake "corrective action".
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said memories of the infamous Mumbai surface of 2004, which proved to be unplayable, came flooding back, while his successor as skipper Michael Clarke slammed the conditions by declaring "day one felt like day five" in Galle.
Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan added: "Usually, the wicket here is good for both the seamers and the spinners but I think it was too dry and made batting difficult."

Tendulkar ruled out of ODI series

"He has been advised rest for four weeks. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has chosen Subramaniam Badrinath to replace him," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.
Badrinath, who turned 31 last week, got a belated birthday gift after Tendulkar became the eighth member of the squad to be forced out of the tour through injury.
Tendulkar missed the first one-dayer at Durham with a swollen toe, ensuring he would not make his eagerly-awaited 100th international century on the tour of England.
Tendulkar, 38, has made 99 centuries in international cricket, 51 in Tests and 48 in one-dayers.
Having scored 274 for seven and reducing England to 27 for two at Durham, India looked on course to beat their hosts for the first time on the tour but the match was abandoned due to rain.
Middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma fractured his right index finger during the match and was ruled out of the series, with Manoj Tiwary called up as his replacement.
Sharma followed Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Ishant Sharma and Harbhajan Singh who have already returned home with injuries.
The 50-over world champions arrived as the top-ranked test team but were knocked off their perch as England swept the series 4-0.
The second one-dayer is at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire on Tuesday.

League One - Morrison salvages point for Owls

The Addicks made a dream start by taking the lead in the third minute. Paul Hayes' pass found Bradley Wright-Phillips 20 yards from goal and the prolific striker scored his fourth goal of the campaign by firing an unstoppable drive beyond the reach of visiting keeper Richard O'Donnell.
Dale Stephens blazed over from eight yards after Wright-Phillips' poor clearance was played into his path by a Wednesday defender.
Owls boss Gary Megson was clearly unimpressed by his side's poor start and replaced Chris Sedgwick with Ryan Lowe after just 22 minutes.
Lowe suffered an injury early in the second half and ironically found himself replaced by Morrison in the 53rd minute.
And it was Morrison who drew his side level three minutes later when the veteran striker headed home a Chris Lines corner before running the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the visiting fans.
